✍️ Editor’s note:
Things are imploding fast. Real fast.
Pump.fun’s PUMP token has cratered after an abrupt airdrop delay. It’s a significant market cap crash for a “meme token factory” that once seemed unstoppable.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s GPT-5 is slated for release in August. This next-gen AI promises to be a game-changer. But will it deliver on time?
Prediction markets are hot on their heels on these two topics. 🧑🚒

😓 Pump.fun Fizzles and Dumps
Well, all good things must come to an end. Sometimes.
Unfortunately for Pump.fun, this is true for them.
The once-hyped PUMP token has seen a dramatic downturn, plunging 45% from its July 16 peak. It’s a massive disappointment from the third-largest ICO in history, when it raised $500M for a $6B valuation.
So, it’s not a surprise that Polymarket traders are pulling out from the Pump.fun hype. Almost no one is foreseeing a PUMP price increase before August.
Expectations remain very pessimistic following PUMP’s spectacular fall from grace.
🔎 Current PUMP Snapshot
As of July 25, 2025, PUMP is trading at $0.002624. Overwhelmingly…bearish.
This comes after co-founder Alon Cohen confirmed that the airdrop won’t happen soon. On the same day, a $5.5B class-action suit under RICO was filed against Pump.fun, Solana Labs, and Jito of colluding in manipulative “slot machine”-style mechanics.
Legal issues, plus the delays in promised airdrops, created significant uncertainty and fear among potential investors.
CoinCentral suggests that the PUMP token may continue to decline as competition intensifies and legal pressure mounts.
With 40% allocated to insiders, no vesting, and only 12-15% sold publicly, early investors dumped tokens immediately. Being weighed down by low volume and concentrated holdings, PUMP’s energy fizzled fast.
Looking ahead, PUMP needs more transparency and clear airdrop mechanics. Without that, odds favor further declines, possibly to sub-$0.0025 territory. 📉
🚀 GPT-5 Plans To Launch on August
Reuters reports that OpenAI plans to release GPT-5 as early as August 2025. Axios confirms industry chatter, pointing to an early August launch for GPT-5.
Prediction markets have been speculating on this launch since February 2025. Finally, they’re getting a “concrete” date, although things can still change by that time.
On Polymarket, an August 31 launch prediction has increased its probability by 18%.
Manifold traders are believing more in OpenAI’s estimation, giving this market a 90% chance to resolve to “Yes”.
With the target date already in place, let’s now explore what the GPT-5 has in store for us.
🤖 How Intelligent is the New GPT-5?
TechZine describes the upcoming GPT-5 as “one LLM to rule them all.” It will be a merged system that consolidates GPT-series and o-series models into a seamless intelligence framework.
Early demos to enterprise customers have been described as “really good, like materially better.” Insiders also suggest that GPT-5 will deliver these features:
Improved factual accuracy
Enhanced multimodal understanding (text, images, audio)
More nuanced reasoning, and
Greater customizability for enterprise use
Tom’s Guide even predicts that GPT-5 will reassert OpenAI’s advantage over rivals like Claude, Gemini, and Grok. However, this will depend on whether it delivers on memory, reasoning, and coding edge.
But will OpenAI deliver on its target launch date?
Yes, they just might. Tech in Asia indicates that GPT-5 is currently undergoing final safety checks and internal evaluations. CEO Sam Altman has also confirmed this upcoming release.
Anthropic, Google, and xAI might have to bring their A-game soon. 🥷
