🤖 Tesla Shuts Down Dojo Supercomputer Team
Tesla made the bold move today to disband its Dojo supercomputer team, effectively pausing development of its proprietary chip infrastructure for AI training.
According to Bloomberg’s sources, Dojo lead Peter Bannon is leaving the company, and the remaining team members are being reassigned. This decision marks a significant shift from Tesla's years-long effort to develop in-house chips and supercomputing capabilities.
So, how will this affect Tesla’s growth as a company? And will it push them further below the order of the largest companies in the world?
It might not matter at all, at least for this year. On prediction markets like Polymarket, Tesla lags way behind NVIDIA and Microsoft in the race for the largest company plum in 2025.
Manifold traders even have lower beliefs in Tesla, as compared to its competitors.
🔎 What Does This Mean for Tesla’s AI Plans?
Analysts previously saw Dojo as a potential competitive advantage, with Morgan Stanley once estimating it could add up to $500 billion to Tesla's value. However, the shutdown could mean relying more on partner companies.
According to media outlets like Bloomberg and Reuters, the Dojo shutdown means Tesla is shifting focus from internal AI hardware to collaboration with external providers like NVIDIA and AMD.
Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk confirmed the move on X.
This appears to be a response to the high costs and internal delays that plagued the Dojo project. Relying on NVIDIA and AMD for its computing and chip manufacturing needs could free up capital for other key initiatives, including Tesla’s robotaxi program.
Tesla’s Dojo discontinuation provides short-term financial relief and flexibility. But, how about long-term costs beyond 2025? That’s something to keep watch. 👀
As for Tesla’s stock, it appears to be at the status quo. While the stock saw a slight dip following the news, the stock’s overall consensus analyst rating remains a “Hold”.
🏈 Who Will Win the Next Super Bowl?
With preseason kicking off and rosters shaping up, prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket are heating up with forecasts on the next Super Bowl champion.
Of course, these early predictions aren’t surefire bets. In 2024, the Bengals were heavily favored early, only to collapse with injuries late in the season. The Eagles, favorites in 2023, didn’t make it past the NFC divisional round.
On Kalshi, the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles are locked in the top two spots.
Polymarket traders are taking a different route at the top, though. For them, it’s not Baltimore that Philadelphia is tied in first place.
Early on, the Buffalo Bills, along with the Ravens and the Eagles, are topping the preseason predictions.
🔮 Exploring the Odds
The Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIX. The defending champs are built for another run, with Hurts at the helm of a balanced and dangerous offense.
On the other hand, the Chiefs may not do as well this season. They’re still contenders, but their offense has been on a two-year downturn.
Outside last year’s finalists, the Ravens and the Bills are knocking on the door. The Ravens have perennial MVP candidate Lamar Jackson in his prime. With Derrick Henry in the backfield, their offense is a nightmare matchup for most opponents.
Meanwhile, Josh Allen leads the Bills, a team who have been consistently ranked among the AFC’s elite.
As for analysts, the first-tier teams in the upcoming season are the Ravens, Bills, and Eagles. In the second tier, you can have the Chiefs and the Detroit Lions.
Who are your darkhorse teams, and who will flop? The NFL season is just around the corner. 🏈
