✍️ Editor’s note:
A flurry of handshakes and hard stares in Washington has the world asking the only question that matters: Is an actual Ukraine ceasefire suddenly on the table?
Oh, and is President Trump the peacemaker that the world needs?

🤝 Can Trump Drive Peace Between Russia and Ukraine?
A significant White House meeting on August 19 brought together President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and top European leaders.
This gathering, which followed a recent non-conclusive summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, could mark a potential turning point in the conflict.
So, how could this influence predictions on a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine?
The answer is…it doesn’t influence as much. At least not today.
On Polymarket, the probability for this ceasefire is still below 50%. It has gone up, short-term, but traders might need more follow-up from both countries.
Manifold traders aren’t that optimistic either. Of course, they believe that there will be a ceasefire sometime in the future (years from now). But not in the next few months.
🗣️ What the Media Says
Trump told Zelenskyy the U.S. would help guarantee Ukraine’s security in any peace deal.
If built on real guarantees, the European Parliament’s president called today’s Washington multilateral session a potential "game changer" for peace. Those are big words, indeed.
Al Jazeera and the Associated Press reported that Trump is placing the burden on Kyiv to make concessions, particularly regarding Crimea, which he believes Ukraine will not be able to reclaim. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also noted that both Moscow and Kyiv would have to make concessions, including on land, for a deal to be reached.
Politico Europe noted that European leaders, who arrived in Washington with "terror" that Trump would force an unfair settlement on Ukraine, were pleasantly surprised by his "restrained and diplomatic" demeanor.
Moreover, Trump might just send US troops to Ukraine as “part of peacekeeping efforts.” However, Polymarket traders aren’t too optimistic about this.
Of course, it’s not up to Trump at the end of the day. Putin and Zelenskyy must find a common ground.
That brings us to another market that Kalshi traders are speculating about.
It’s up to these two leaders to prevent further fallout between Russia and Ukraine. Will they meet soon? The world is watching.
💪 Who Will Win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize?
Ah, we’re not yet done with Trump and his peacemaking efforts.
Today’s White House peace push is more than politics. It just might be a part of a campaign for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
Newsweek reports Trump’s Nobel odds have surged ahead of the Alaska summit. But how about on prediction markets?
On Polymarket, Trump is already closing the gap on frontrunner Yulia Navalnaya.
On Kalshi, Navalnaya has a slightly larger advantage over Trump.
Manifold traders are amping up their expectations. They’re 72% sure that Trump will win the Nobel if a ceasefire happens in Ukraine before 2026.
🗣️ What Analysts Say
The news of Trump's diplomatic efforts is dominating headlines today. Trump's recent meeting with President Zelenskyy at the White House has been framed as a crucial step toward ending the war.
Media reports indicate that European leaders, who were initially skeptical, were "pleasantly surprised" by Trump's willingness to work with them on a peace framework that includes security guarantees for Ukraine.
Historically, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded for a wide range of achievements, from brokering peace deals to advocating for human rights. Past winners like Henry Kissinger (1973) and Barack Obama (2009) have won the prize for their efforts in peace negotiations and foreign policy.
Still, Yulia Navalnaya leads this race as we head into the deciding period. She’s the current chair of the Human Rights Foundation and inspires global empathy.
Navalnaya is a symbol of resistance for many, and that’s why she’s polling ahead of other high-profile candidates.
Trump has a long way to go before he can level with Navalnaya. But successfully brokering a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine? That could be the springboard he needs.
