✍️ Editor’s note:
BlackRock’s Bitcoin appetite cooled while Ethereum stole the spotlight. BlackRock, a financial giant, may be reversing course on its digital asset strategy.
The whispers of them dumping massive Bitcoin holdings to buy into Ethereum have sent shockwaves through both markets.

📈 BlackRock Loads Up On Ethereum
In a move that’s got both crypto bulls and skeptics talking, BlackRock appears to be liquidating BTC in favor of a bold boost in Ethereum.
On August 20, BlackRock transferred over $366 million of BTC and ETH to a wallet in Coinbase Prime.
But today, BlackRock rocked the waves again, buying $233.6 million worth of Ethereum. This could put ETH back on track, especially if other whales follow suit.
First, let’s see what prediction markets think of ETH’s potential. There’s still a percentage of Polymarket traders who believe that Ethereum will hit either $4,800 or $5,000 this August.
Kalshi traders almost mirror this sentiment, with 19% of their traders believing that ETH will hit a new ATH in August.
You can also go to Manifold to predict whether ETH hits that ATH in 2025.
🔎 Current Ethereum Snapshot
As of August 22, 2025, Ethereum (ETH) is trading around $4,272.69.
Recently, ETF issuers logged consecutive outflows of $311 million in BTC and $240 million in ETH.
But here’s a piece of good news. In prior cycles, ETF-linked outflows from large holders precipitated steep, short-lived pullbacks, often followed by renewed accumulation once liquidity conditions stabilized.
That’s why Business Insider flags ETH’s institutional gains (ETFs +54% vs. BTC +10%), GENIUS Act’s stablecoin clarity, and staking yield as bullish tailwinds. Reuters notes companies are adding ETH on balance sheets as a defensible inflation hedge, supported by staking returns.
Just take note how BlackRock drew over $1.018 billion in net inflows in a single day, vastly outstripping equivalent Bitcoin ETF inflows. Its iShares Ethereum Trust has also exceeded $10 billion in AUM, backed by institutional capital driving both inflows and price support.
Altcoin season is still in bloom, apparently. Don’t lose hope just yet. 🤞
