🫡 Cracker Barrel Gives the People What They Want
Yesterday, Cracker Barrel officially announced it would reverse its decision to adopt a new, simplified logo and would be returning to its classic "Old Timer" design.
This move came less than a week after the new logo was unveiled, sparking an intense backlash from customers and conservative figures, including President Donald Trump.
Since then, prediction markets have been speculating whether it will revert to its old logo. That market has resolved to “Yes” today, but Cracker Barrel is still trending in these platforms.
Now, people are predicting the future of current Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino. Polymarket traders say that there’s a 21% chance that Masino is removed from her position this year.
Kalshi traders are also chiming in, giving this market a 19% probability of happening.
What are the grounds for Cracker Barrel to fire its CEO? Let’s dive into several reports and analyses.
🗣️ What the Media Says
Cracker Barrel’s initial rebrand was part of a broader strategy by CEO Julie Felss Masino to modernize the chain and appeal to a younger demographic. However, the new logo, which removed the iconic man in overalls, was widely criticized as "woke," "soulless," and "generic."
What’s worse is that the company's stock price tumbled following the announcement, losing nearly $200 million in market value at one point. The good news is that its stock price eventually rebounded after the decision to revert the logo.
Still, this is a prime example of how culture can affect global branding. The Washington Post emphasized how branding changes can become cultural flashpoints, especially with legacy brands.
Express News added that Sardar Biglari viewed the rebrand as "wasteful," and used the backlash to underline calls for leadership shifts.
Will Cracker Barrel crack under the pressure? Will they indeed axe Masino from her CEO role?
The Independent noted that despite reverting the logo, the company's stock remains down from its position at the beginning of the month. There could be a lasting impact from this controversy.
Changes might be coming.
